Hand-built Lamp Base with Sgraffito

Join ceramic artist Pascale Wilson for the day and create your own slab-built lamp base with colourful slip decoration. In the morning, you'll choose from a number of designs, using templates to cut out slabs of clay to build your lamp form. We will cover the fundamental techniques used when hand-building in clay, and you'll be guided through the build process. In the afternoon, you'll learn how to use coloured slips to decorate your piece. We will cover sgraffito techniques which allow for the creation of block colour and pattern, through to detailed illustration. There will be many colours to choose from and reference pieces to be inspired by. Your piece will be fired and glazed after the workshop and be ready to collect up to 6 weeks later. Please note, the wiring of the lamp is not included as part of this class, but you will be advised on where to source the parts for this. This pottery workshop will take place in the first floor workshop space in our Bristol pottery studio, in Bedminster. You will be in a small group class of 6 students, with plenty of guidance and support from your tutor.
