Susan Meiselas: Artist Talk and Book Signing

Magnum photographer Susan Meiselas joins us at Martin Parr Foundation for a rare talk in the UK about her photographic practice. Susan will give an overview of her career before discussing her major new photobook, NO KINGS, published by RM, 2026. Followed by questions from the floor and a book signing. In this new work Susan has created a visual record of American protest during Trump's second presidency. NO KINGS sits at the intersection of documentary photography, contemporary politics, graphic culture and social history, as Susan captures the humour, anger, creativity and political concerns of ordinary Americans. From just before the second Trump inauguration, and onward towards the midterm elections, Susan has recorded the multi-coloured, hand-drawn signs of political fun and fury that American citizens made for demonstrations in both NYC and Washington, D.C. Susan will share images of earlier projects that relate to her new book NO KINGS: Signs of the Times. This talk will be followed by questions from the floor and a book signing, where we'll have many of Susan's publications available from MPF bookshop. Susan is also president of the Magnum Foundation and this talk coincides with the exhibition HEAT, currently on display at The Welcome Building as part of the Bristol Photo Festival 2026. HEAT brings together projects developed through Magnum Foundation's 2023-25 Photography Expanded Fellowship, which supported photographers exploring new ways of telling stories about the climate crisis and the inextricable relationship between communities and land.
