Farren van Wyk: BOP 26 ARTIST TALK

South African-Dutch photographer Farren van Wyk travels to Bristol for the BOP 26 festival weekend to talk about her new photobook, _Mixedness is my Mythology_, co-published by Fw: Books and Deadbeat Club, 2026. In this work Farren explores the complex historical relationship between South Africa and the Netherlands, which revolves around the connections and contradictions of migration, ethnicity, colonialism, and apartheid. Born in 1993, Farren saw the last year of the apartheid era that officially classified her as 'coloured'. In this new publication Farren uses black and white analogue processes to build a personal mythology rooted in family history, iconic imagery, and reappropriated cultural symbols, exploring the experience of hybrid identity shaped by migration. This talk will be followed by questions from the floor and a book signing.
