Michel Campeau: BOP 26 ARTIST TALK

Quebec photographer Michel Campeau will give a talk on the evolution of his work and the circumstances surrounding the creation of his series Darkroom. Michel will also discuss the subsequent research that led to the publication of his collection of darkroom archives, Rites and Rituals of the Darkroom. This talk coincides with an exhibition of Darkroom on display at Arnos Vale Cemetery's Anglican Chapel Crypt across the BOP 26 festival weekend. Reflecting on existence, creation, and archives, Michel's works have marked the last five decades of contemporary photography. His research and publications have focused on the aesthetic and conceptual legacy of the material culture of analog photography. 'I photographed approximately 85 darkrooms within my professional network in Montreal for the "Darkroom" project, and likely another 200 while documenting darkrooms around the world - in places such as Havana, Berlin, and Niamey.' - Michel Campeau. Darkroom is the first title in the 'Parr/Nazraeli Series of Ten'. The talk will be followed by questions from the floor and a book signing. The Darkroom exhibition at Arnos Vale Cemetery is located just an 8 minute walk from Martin Parr Foundation. This has been programmed to coincide with the MPF exhibition Dark Tales: British Documentary and the Gothic, with both shows on display 17 SEPT - 20 DEC as part of Bristol Photo Festival.
