‘When little girls become unruly women, monsters make their own mythology'. Monster is a new one woman spoken word show by Naomi Wood, exploring the nature of all that we find terrifying. This 'heartfelt and hilarious' (Reviews Hub) true story about looking and being seen takes us deep into the underbelly of all the ways we seek connection. 'Funny, intelligent and deeply human' (Bespoke Black Book) 'Charmingly vulnerable with Fleabag like intensity' (Reviews Hub) 'Delicious fun and thought provoking' (Brighton and Hove news) 'A thoughtful and emotionally rich piece of work' (Brighton the Inside). Naomi is a spoken word performer and theatre maker, celebrating rebellion and revelling in rage whilst maintaining a healthy preoccupation with the eroticism of bird feeders. Her solo spoken word show Gobbess has toured the UK, with previous shows at Edinburgh Fringe, Glastonbury Festival and in Oslo. It has been described as 'Laugh-out-loud funny', 'delightful', 'raw, powerful and incisive', 'pure magic...unmissable' as well as a 'mic drop on women's experiences'. Naomi has been published by Backlash Press as well as Ink, Sweat and Tears, and Mslexia. She was recently shortlisted for The Bournemouth Writing Prize. Monster is a show for anyone who has been afraid to dip their toe in or felt all at sea. A true story about feeling exposed and learning to love both people and pond life. 'Wood’s spoken word could be described as an act of creative mastery.' Harley Keasey on Gobbess.
