Classic Film Club: Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948)

This month's screening is a comedy that remains a perennial favourite and still scores higher among IMDB Reviewers than do its remakes. Starring Cary Grant and Myrna Loy, Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House was released in 1948 with an elaborate advertising campaign that involved the raffling of 73 replica Dream Houses on its opening night. A young couple find their New York apartment too small for their growing family, and look to buy and fix up an old house in Connecticut. But soon set-backs arise, and Mr Blandings begins to realise that his dream house may cost more than time and money - perhaps it may also cost his job .. and his marriage, certainly his happiness and even what is left of his sanity!
