Classic Film Club: Dancing with Crime
Our Classic screening for July is a British film noir - a genre that, at the time (at least on this side of the pond) was sometimes called a 'spiv' movie. Which I kind of like. _Dancing with Crime_ (1947) stars Richard Attenborough in only his eighth film (a year before his breakthrough role in _Brighton Rock_). He appears with his real-life wife of two years standing, Sheila Sim, and with briefly glimpses talents not yet discovered: an uncredited Diana Dors or Dirk Bogarde, for example. And in a major role, Bill Owen (Cleggy from _Last of the Summer Wine)._ PLOT: Having been demobbed after the war, honest London cabbie, Ted Peters (Attenborough) is drawn into a seedy underworld, when army pal, Dave Robinson (Bill Owen), offers various deals - that is until Dave falls out of the back of his cab, dead!
