I Dwell in Possibility

What happens when Emily Dickinson's poetry meets choral voices, electronic beats and contemporary dance? I Dwell in Possibility is a new musical triptych that brings Dickinson's extraordinary poetry into a contemporary world of sound and movement. Three interconnected sections explore the self, mortality and the questioning of faith and the divine, drawing on both well-known and lesser-known poems. Dickinson's words are transformed through original music, live choral singing, electronic sound and contemporary choreography, creating a performance that moves between the intimate and the visceral, the acoustic and the electronic. Created and composed by award-winning composer Jean-Loup Pinson, and co-directed with choreographer Roseanna Anderson (IMPERMANENCE), the performance brings together a specially assembled choir led by David Ogden, professional contemporary dancers and live electronic musicians. This work-in-progress sharing at The Mount Without marks the culmination of an Arts Council England-funded period of research and development, and offers the first glimpse of a new interdisciplinary work being developed towards a full-scale production.
