Workshop
Learn a new way to appreciate the beauty, value and fascination of nature. During this course, students will discover examples of great nature writing, then incorporate famous authors' techniques into their own writing, based on nature or images brought into the classroom. This course will be for writers who'd like to connect more with nature, for nature-lovers who'd like to write about their passion, and for anyone with even the merest hint of an interest in words or wildlife - all are welcome, including returners, and no experience is required. Week-by-week topics are likely to include: focusing on a single wild object, plant or creature; connections and the web of life; incorporating senses, emotions and memories; writing from other viewpoints; and writing in the context of environmental change. If there is time and you would like to, there will be the option of sharing some of your writing. (NB All nature brought into the classroom will be plant, object- or picture-based and any plants or objects will be sourced legally, ethically and sustainably.)
