Weekend Fabric Printing - Linocut & Screen Workshop

Explore fabric printing with linocut and silk screen printing. In this two day workshop discover how to design and print beautiful, repeat patterns on fabric led by lino printmaker Victoria Willmott. From developing your initial design to printing a repeating pattern by hand, you'll explore a variety of techniques for printing with lino and silk screen onto fabric without the need for a printing press. Through practical demonstrations, experimentation and hands-on making, you'll learn how to create your own printed textiles and gain the confidence to continue printing onto fabric at home. Day 1 - Linocut to Fabric Prints Learn how to design a lino block for fabric printing, develop a design that can be repeated to create a pattern across a length of fabric. In the afternoon you will begin printing your lino onto the fabric using fabric based printing inks. Explore the possibilities of adding second colours through foam stamps and layering a smaller linocut stamp. Day 2 - Screen Printing You will learn how to prepare a paper cut stencil for screen printing. Draw and cut your own design to fit the screen and learn the screen printing methods to apply ink to fabric. By the end of the weekend course, you'll have developed your own repeat-pattern designs, completed four 60cm square lengths of hand-printed fabric as well as additional paper prints. These fabric prints could be used to sew into cushion covers or other fabric projects.
