Between Cities: Andrew Hood

Between Cities brings together Andrew Hood's paintings of Bristol alongside works inspired by cities encountered on his travels abroad. From familiar streets and landmarks to unfamiliar places seen for the first time, the exhibition explores the different ways a city can be experienced, remembered and translated into paint. Much of Andrew's work begins with sketches made on location, where he explores the character of a place - its architecture, light, movement and changing atmosphere. Back in the studio, these observations are developed into paintings. Following his recent series of drawings made around Bristol, Between Cities offers an opportunity to see how this process extends beyond the city he knows so well, bringing together a varied collection of urban landscapes from the streets of France all the way to the bazaars of New Delhi.
