Sounds and Words for a Ships' Graveyard

The Purton Hulks: Sounds and words from a Ships' Graveyard by Isla Miria and The Keeling Curve (Rhiannon Bedford and Will Frampton) depicts the skeletal remains of the abandoned ships at the Purton Hulks, the largest ship graveyard in mainland Britain. Spoken words, live violin, modular synthesizer and electronics evoke the haunting ambience of the Severn Estuary. The Keeling Curve play 'churchy minimalism' using violin and modular synthesizers. Their music explores relationships to environment and place using drones, loops, and field recordings. Isla is a writer from Bristol. She experiments with documentary poetry: how words might pay attention to the memories, histories and voices of a place. Pablo Jimenez-Moreno explores sound, space, and texture through classical fingerstyle guitar and minimalist composition. Livio Spanò's work explores the human condition, memory, social injustice and everyday life through poetry and street photography. Seb Waters's practice focuses on matters of the heart and romantic confusions.
