Talks
Join this in-person event in Bristol for an opportunity to explore reparative justice, reflect on the impact of historic injustice, and consider how we can work towards healing, justice and reconciliation. How should the Methodist Church in Britain respond to its historical connection to the transatlantic enslavement of African people? Join us for an interactive event to explore the Church's history, consider how its legacy continues to shape our church and world, and discuss what meaningful action might look like now. This event will take place at the New Room in Bristol. Together, we will explore research into the Methodist Church in Britain historical links to the transatlantic trade in enslaved African people, reflect on the continuing legacies of slavery and racial injustice in society and within the Church, and share ideas and perspectives as part of a Church-wide consultation on reparative justice and future action. This event is for anyone connected with Methodist churches and communities who would like to learn more, listen to different experiences and contribute to shaping the Church's response. The event forms part of a nationwide consultation taking place during autumn 2026. Insights gathered will help inform recommendations and actions to be considered by the Methodist Conference in July 2027. Whether you are new to this conversation or have been engaging with these issues for some time, your voice matters. We hope you will join us.
