The Playhouse, Backwell opened on 31st October 1951 as the home of The North Somerset Players. Initially located in a WW2 hut in the orchard of Mollie Griffin's garden, the Playhouse has seen Backwell grow around it, entertaining the village with countless plays, events and films for 75 years. Join us as we celebrate our anniversary with an homage to the original opening performance, featuring 'Player Queen' by Kathleen Stafford, and 'The Dumb Wife Of Cheapside' by Ashley Dukes. 'The Dumb Wife Of Cheapside' was first performed at the Playhouse in 1951 and contains some outdated attitudes and stereotypes that may offend.
